Write and Show allows you to publish any information or images within the limits of the law. Because any material you publish is done on our servers, we also are legally restricted (to the same extent as the author) as though we are publishing your material ourselves. So, like you, we are limited by copyright laws and laws regarding propriety, defamation, libel and slander.

Generally, in the public perception, the opinion prevails that because of our constitutional rights we are free to publish anything. That assumption is not correct. There are certain legal restrictions, which must be observed regarding publication of various information. While we often hear (and say) that we have "freedom of speech" there are defined limits to those freedoms. The law requires or limits authors to civil presentations. Freedom ends when it conflicts with laws which have been enacted to protect others.

Following are the limitations to what a book can contain.

No book may contain:

1. Potentially libelous statements; such as accusing somebody of a crime (without conviction or confession), defamation of character, or unfounded (unable to be proven) statements that could harm somebody's reputation. You can "wonder," you can "theorize," you can offer "your opinion," but always those approaches must be clearly stated as such.

Such purposeful demarcation can often separate and protect an author from committing a crime or being subject to a civil legal action, however this is a very dangerous area... because if it can be shown that your intent was to damage a reputation (which otherwise would have remained intact) by implication or innuendo resulting in logical inference by an unsuspecting public to damage a reputation you will be subject to the same legal actions as though you deliberately published erroneous and harmful information about another party. If the Write and Show legal department deems that you have "crossed that line" you will be asked to remove such material. While seeming harsh, such diligence will enhance the likelihood of your book being eventually published, because all publishing houses are subject to these same restrictions and rigorously follow similar guidelines.

2. Racist language or threats (involving violation of civil rights laws concerning speech).

3. Explicit descriptions or images of a sexual nature relating to or promoting child pornography or other exploitation of minor children.

4. Personal attacks, insults, threats, harassment or inciting violence.

5. Advocating the violent overthow of the government or acts of terror.

6. Copyrighted material for which the author is not the owner of the copyright or for which permission for use has not been granted.

7. Images (still or video) which are regarded as pornographic even though such images are within the legal limits for internet publication. WriteandShow is not a pornographic hosting vehicle (there are many such hosting options on the web). WriteandShow simply does not permit images (or links to such images) which, by any reasonable standards (in our final judgement), should not be viewed by young children.

8. Anything which violates the laws of the United States (or the laws of Texas, Calfornia or New York) or directly or indirectly solicits any customers for any services which are illegal or of a sexual nature. There are web hosting options on the internet for such services, but WriteandShow is not one of them.

Generally, WriteandShow is not an arbiter of "good taste." Almost anything you wish to publish is permissible with merely two restrictions from Write and Show; it must not violate any laws concerning publication (or speech) and it must not contain images which might be classified as pornographic, especially those which (in our sole judgement) would be unacceptable for viewing by children (this restriction, however, does not apply to written words, only still and video images and links to such images).
